You haven’t missed this movie, have you? Because if you have, well, I am here to point it out to you, especially if you are Beatles’ fans like I am.
This beautifully crafted movie, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, follows John Lennon as a teenager in the years leading up to the birth of The Beatles: his relationship with his aunt Mimi, and his absent mother Julia as she re-enters his life, the meeting and friendship with Paul McCartney and George Harrison and the passion for music that united them. Perfectly placed and handled flashbacks fill in the details about his childhood and how he came to grow up with his stern aunt Mimi.
The cast is plump with talent, led by the talented and handsome Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays Lennon, the brilliant Kristin Scott Thomas as Mimi, Anne-Marie Duff as Julia, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster as young Paul McCartney.
“Why couldn’t God make me Elvis?”
“Because he was saving you for John Lennon!”
I own this movie on DVD, but it recently became available on Netflix streaming. Of course, there is always Amazon and iTunes, too. You can catch the trailer at this link, by clicking on the Watch Trailer tab.
Let me know how you enjoy it!
