I have lost count of how many times I have watched L.A. Story over the years. This movie should be a classic. It probably is by now, if twenty-four years of brilliance count. I am writing about it today because last night it popped up in iTunes in HD at the special price of $9.99 (it might still be). So I grabbed it and watched it, of course, but also wanted to let you know right away in case you are interested while the price is good.
The plot follows a “wacky TV weatherman” (Steve Martin) as he tries to make sense of his life in the quirky Los Angeles of the early 90s, while also winning the heart of an English newspaper reporter (Victoria Tennant) with the help of a talking freeway sign.
“Let your mind go and your body will follow”.
Definitely a brilliant romantic comedy with a touch of the bizarre, L.A. Story is cleverly entertaining in ways that only Steve Martin can conjure. Sarah Jessica Parker, Richard E. Grant, Marilu Henner, Frances Fisher and Patrick Stewart (in a very unexpected role) enrich the storyline with their talents.
You can watch a trailer at this page, and the movie is also available as DVD on Amazon for those who prefer it that way.
