Yesterday, my friend Valerie and I went to see the movie Le Chef at Lark Theatre in Larkspur and I just have to tell you about it because it is a really fun and entertaining movie.
The movie is set in the world of French haute cuisine, and follows the antics and hilarious drama of a famous three-star chef as he is threatened with the loss of one of his precious stars by his restaurant’s group new CEO who is deviously trying to bring in a young chef specializing in molecular cuisine.
Jean Reno does a magnificent job at playing the great chef Alexandre Lagarde, and alongside him is the also brilliant Michaël Youn who plays the part of Jacky Bonnot, a younger man with a deep passion and talent for cooking in general, and the cuisine of Chef Lagarde in particular.
The movie is in French with subtitles, but I assure you you won’t miss a beat and will giggle and laugh at all the right moments.
It was released in 2012 with the original title “Comme un Chef” and is currently playing in theaters around the U.S. The release date on dvd/blue-ray is October 21, 2014, so after that it should be available also through Netflix, iTunes and Amazon.
You can take a peek at the trailer on YouTube right here.
After the movie, you might want to do like we did, and stop somewhere and grab a bowl of French onion soup with a glass or red wine. Or maybe stop at the grocery store to pick up the few items you will need to make it at home, and you can get the recipe right here.
And, by the way, I don’t like molecular cuisine. Do you?
