Hallowe’en | The Witching Hour is at Hand

Isn’t this just the most fabulous witch’s hat?

This year will be the first time I will be doing something about Halloween. Thinking back, I really don’t recall getting into any sort of costume – beyond a mask – ever for Halloween, and in a long time for Carnival. I have been tempted before, but Hawai’i is not conducive to wearing costumes as it is too hot, so… I would stick to one of the pretty Venetian masks I have.

But this year I thought I would up my game, at least some. I wear black a lot, so I thought adding a couple of accessories would turn me into a resident of Diagon Alley in the flick of a wand. About that… I am still looking for a magic wand, so be sure to let me know if you find one.

The way it happened is I saw some super fabulous witch’s shoes, crooked heel and all, in the Pyramid Collection’s catalogue. The price was right, so I thought I would give them a try. They were the first piece of the puzzle to arrive, and they turned out to be really well made and comfortable. That’s when I started to get really excited.

But what are cool witch’s shoes without a proper hat? I started browsing the internet, but I could not find a hat that appealed to me anywhere. Everything looked rather cheap and tawdry. Until I landed on Etsy, where my search brought up several interesting options, of which this marvelous hat was the best. Made to order by The Bohemian Goddess, this exquisite, hand-made hat is beautifully detailed, and of excellent quality-price ratio. There were several other hats to chose from in The Bohemian Goddess’s Etsy shop, all very beautiful, but I loved the style of this one, the flowers in the decorations, the lace around the brim, and the veil.

It even has a black bird on it! Now I really feel like a character out of Harry Potter. Can you say Professor McGonagall? Even though, I must admit, the image that instantly popped into my mind was that of Professor Snape dressed in Neville Longbottom’s grandmother’s clothes, when he shows up as Neville’s Boggart during the Defense against the Dark Arts class. Riddikulus!!

The hat arrived well packaged on Monday, delivered by FedEx all the way from the East Coast, and it was more beautiful than the photos. I tried it on, my pups looked at me expecting chicken (they always expect chicken), and I couldn’t wait to take pics and share about it with you.

Dovely, aka The Bohemian Goddess, said she has only a few more available in her shop that are ready to ship. If you are interested, you might want to be quick, and since Halloween is next week, you may have to pay rush fee to have it delivered in time.

Since my black and purple striped stockings are nowhere to be found, and any witch worthy of the name should have striped stockings, I browsed the local shops to see if I could find new ones. All I could find were these, which are fun, but are black and white, not purple. Still, they are cute, but I really wanted purple… Then yesterday I remembered: “Of course, Amazon!” So, on the day, I will be wearing the black and purple ones that are coming in the mail.

While I was browsing Amazon, I found something else that I had considered but then glazed over, and it will complete the costume perfectly. To know what that is, you will have to wait and see if I get in the mood to snap a very rare selfie on Halloween.

I am thinking of attending a Halloween Street Fair in a nearby town next Friday, with my camera as my magic wand. Then on Halloween day the plan is to hand out caramel apples to trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood. Of course, if I could I would kick my heels and jump right in the middle of the Halloween part of Meet Me in Saint Louis.

Are you doing anything for Halloween? Are you dressing up? Are you taking your kids trick-or-treating? What are they going to dress as?

LOVE the shoes! I wish we had such a good range here. I’ll have to visit America one year for Halloween! 😀ReplyCancel
